£495,000 Awarded for 100 schools on our new Nurture UK project
Nearly half a million pounds was awarded to SAfE and the Innovation Inclusion Schools working group from the Mental Health and Investment fund. This successful bid allows us to help 100 schools develop a whole school nurture approach with Nurture UK. This organisation is dedicated to improving the social, emotional, mental health and wellbeing of children and young people (CYP) and means we can improve the lives of our most vulnerable children across these schools.
1100 school leaders have been on our NPQ courses this year, (run by our sister company STSN) with a pass rate overall of 98%. We have 20 amazing school facilitators supporting our participants – working together to improve leadership across the county and beyond.
In July 2023, 166 Primary Headteachers came together at Wisley for their first in person conference since the pandemic. Reconnecting, Collaborating and Belonging. An uplifting and positive day with Daniel Sobel and Chris Lube.

Over 2023 we had a total of 60 graded and 48 ungraded inspections. Currently 92% of all Surrey schools are graded good or better, in comparison with 90% nationally. A great validation of the huge work, commitment and passion of our leaders and teachers.
More than nine out of ten schools in Surrey have engaged with the North-East Hants and Surrey Maths Hub – developing excellent maths teaching and ensuring ‘The Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts’.
27 secondary schools continue to engage on our fantastic programme with Marc Rowland – focusing on Educational Equity at the same time as ensuring excellence for all.
We produced six Heads-Up podcasts in 2023 to support and deepen thinking for school leaders. This year we talked to Sam Strickland about behaviour, Fiona Fearon about widening the lens of inclusivity, and Dave Damon about supporting CYP mental health.
We put on over 30 network sessions for diverse groups of teachers and education specialists from school leaders, middle leaders, assessment leads, specialist centre leads to EYFS practitioners. Working together to share best practice, develop pedagogy and keep us all at the forefront of education.
This summer we celebrated 29 Governors with either long service or recognition awards at our fabulous governance conference. Overall, we have about 4000 governors or trustees working in Surrey – the biggest volunteer workforce in the county!
We now have 319 schools as part of the SAfE family – working in partnership to enable all children and young people to have the opportunities to enjoy learning and achieve the best possible outcomes through excellent education.
As Surrey’s local education partnership, we feel privileged to be part of your tremendous successes. We wish you a wonderful and well-deserved break and look forward to working with you all in 2024.
Happy holidays for 2023 and Happy New Year for 2024!
