Surrey Governance Support Programme

“Governors Supporting Governors”

Are you an experienced serving governor within a school or trust?

The education sector has long recognised that the most effective improvement comes from within, when experienced practitioners share their expertise to strengthen the system as a whole. Our Surrey Governance Support Programme embodies this principle, creating a powerful network of governors supporting governors to achieve excellence across our region.

Are you looking for a further challenge?

We are seeking exceptional governors to join our volunteer community and help us address challenges facing governing bodies through structured peer support and expertise sharing.

We offer two distinct but complementary volunteer roles:

  1. Investigation and Panel Governor (IPG)
  2. Specialist Advisory Governor (SAG)

The recruitment pack opposite provides you with full information about these roles, the key responsibilities and person specification. Once you have read it, if you would like to apply for one or both role types, please download the application form/s and return via email to govsupport@schoolsallexcel.com. Full training will be given to successful applicants.

Our Vision

Effective governance is fundamental to organisational success, yet many governing bodies face similar challenges: developing strategic thinking, strengthening accountability mechanisms, improving stakeholder engagement, and building leadership capacity. Rather than addressing these challenges in isolation, our programme harnesses the collective wisdom and experience of our most effective governors to create a sustainable support network that strengthens governance from within.

The programme operates on a simple but powerful premise: experienced governors possess invaluable knowledge and insights that, when shared strategically, can transform governance practice across multiple schools. By creating structured opportunities for peer learning and support, we’re building a self-improving system where governance expertise is shared, developed, and sustained within our professional community.
