Preparing for the Future: How Gosden House School Is Strengthening Its KS4 Offer
Focusing on Long-Term Success
At Gosden House School, preparing students for life beyond the classroom is a top priority. In 2022–23, the school placed a sharp focus on evaluating and enhancing its Key Stage 4 (KS4) curriculum and vocational offer, aligning with three key development targets in the School Development Plan (SDP). These included:
- Refining assessment methods for students working above Entry Level 3
- Improving personal career guidance in line with Gatsby Benchmark 8
- Introducing ASDAN qualifications with a robust quality assurance process
Using the Inclusion Framework to Drive Evaluation
To measure the impact of this work, the school turned to Aspect 3.4 of the Surrey Inclusion Framework, which focuses on preparing learners for the next stage of education or employment. The leadership team—including the Headteacher, Deputy Head, KS4 Coordinator, and Aspirations Advisor—collaborated for a deep, reflective analysis. They asked critical questions about curriculum intent, outcomes, and areas for continued growth.
Celebrating Tangible Outcomes
The results have been impressive. Students achieved excellent exam results, including success with ASDAN qualifications tailored to Entry Levels 1–3 and broader Edexcel qualifications up to Level 2.
Other key outcomes included:
- Increased college placements and supported employment pathways
- Enhanced student engagement in career planning, annual reviews, and work experience
- Stronger outcomes for disadvantaged students who were more involved in decision-making processes
Planning the Next Steps
This reflective evaluation has laid the groundwork for meaningful next steps. Gosden House plans to:
- Track student outcomes systematically post-graduation
- Support their Aspirations Advisor to gain a Level 3 qualification in career guidance
- Collaborate with employers to better scaffold work experience and build a clear profile of what makes a “good employee”
Embedding Inclusion in the School’s DNA
By embedding the Inclusion Framework into its improvement journey, Gosden House is not only refining its KS4 offer—it’s ensuring that every student is equipped with the skills, qualifications, and confidence they need to thrive beyond school. This commitment to inclusive, future-focused education continues to drive the school’s mission forward.
