AI in Education: New Partnership Brings Cutting-Edge Certification to Surrey Primary Schools
In an era where artificial intelligence is transforming every aspect of our lives, schools face the critical challenge of integrating AI safely, ethically, and effectively. That’s why SAfE is delighted to announce an exclusive partnership with AI in Education, bringing their nationally recognised certification framework to Surrey maintained primary schools at a specially reduced rate.
Why AI Certification Matters Now
With 86% of students already using AI tools like ChatGPT, and nearly two-thirds believing AI interaction will be crucial for their future careers, schools can no longer afford to take a reactive stance. The AI in Education Certification provides the structured roadmap schools desperately need to navigate this complex landscape with confidence.
Co-founded by Sir Anthony Seldon and Alex Russell OBE, AI in Education represents a unique cross-sector initiative that puts pedagogy, not technology, at the heart of AI integration. Their research-backed framework helps schools maximise AI’s benefits whilst proactively addressing critical concerns around data privacy, bias, academic integrity, and the risk of over-dependence.
A Framework Built for Real Schools
The certification is structured around five essential pillars that mirror the realities of school life:
- AI Literacy – building understanding across your entire school community
- Policies and Ethics – developing robust, practical guidelines for safe use
- Tools and Systems – making informed decisions about AI technologies
- Digital Pedagogy – ensuring AI enhances rather than replaces human teaching
- Collaboration and Community – learning together and sharing best practice
Schools can progress through three levels – Explorer, Practitioner, and Innovator – allowing institutions to start wherever they are on their AI journey and develop at their own pace.
Built-In Professional Development
To make that journey manageable, every participating school receives a year-long programme of training and personalised support:
- Leadership Strategy Event – face-to-face session for Heads and SLT to shape vision, policy and risk mitigation – 30th September 2025
- Inclusion Workshop – practical, in-person labs for SENCos focused on AI tools that increase accessibility and personalise learning – 6th October 2025
- Whole Staff Webinars – live, hands-on showcases supporting staff to use AI safely and responsibly – 24th September & 1st October (you don’t need to attend both dates)
- Assessor Coaching Calls – scheduled check-ins that keep evidence gathering on track and answer emerging questions
This spine of CPD dovetails with SAfE’s existing leadership and SEND networks, ensuring the work adds value rather than workload.
Exclusive Benefits for Surrey primary schools
Through this partnership, primary schools gain access to:
- Professional learning and support
- Comprehensive guidance materials and case study library
- Expert assessment and feedback throughout the certification journey
- Access to a supportive community of schools on the same path
- Integration with SAfE’s existing professional development programmes
The certification process uses PebblePad, a secure platform where schools can compile evidence, reflect on their practice, and receive expert feedback. This isn’t about ticking boxes – it’s about genuine development that drives meaningful change in how AI is understood and used across your school.
Supporting Our Most Vulnerable Learners
Particularly important is the certification’s explicit focus on equity and inclusion. The framework emphasises how AI can support SEND pupils, reduce barriers for disadvantaged learners, and help address the persistent challenges around social mobility. With proper implementation, AI has the potential to provide personalised support at scale – but only when deployed thoughtfully and ethically.
Taking the First Step
The certification officially launches in June 2025, giving schools time to prepare and plan their approach. Whether you’re already experimenting with AI tools or haven’t yet begun your journey, the structured framework provides clear next steps tailored to your context.
As one participating headteacher noted: “The AI in Education Certification has given us the confidence to embrace AI’s potential while keeping our values and our students’ wellbeing at the centre of every decision.”
Join Us in Shaping the Future
This partnership represents more than just access to a certification – it’s about Surrey schools collectively leading the way in responsible AI adoption. By working together, sharing experiences, and learning from each other, we can ensure AI truly serves our educational mission.
