Integrating EAL and Multilingual Learners Spring 26
This webinar, presented by Belonging Effect (formerly Diverse Educators), aims to transform how educators understand, support, and empower pupils who are new to English and multilingual. By encouraging participants to step into the shoes of a newly arrived pupil, the session highlights the emotional and practical challenges these learners may face. Educators will explore strategies to create a genuinely welcoming environment that recognises and values the linguistic and cultural strengths EAL (English as an Additional Language) learners bring to the school community.
The session challenges deficit-based assumptions that can negatively shape perceptions of EAL and multilingual learners and instead promotes an asset-based mindset. Practical guidance will be shared on how to support swift integration into school life, ensuring these pupils feel a sense of belonging.
The webinar will introduce approaches to ‘language aware’ teaching, enabling educators to better support academic success while respecting the diverse language backgrounds of their students.
