Disrupting Unconscious Bias

The beliefs, knowledge, understanding and/or teaching practices this programme aims to address:

This training session will include

  • Developing consciousness of how and when bias manifests itself
  • Challenging stereotypes as they arise
  • Recognising the impact that bias has on our behaviours and decisions
  • Understanding the link between bias, microaggressions and discrimination
  • Identifying the impact bias has on career pathways

Intended Impact on practice:

This session will support schools in becoming more aware of different types of conscious and unconscious bias; in becoming more confident in identifying and calling out/ in bias as it manifests itself in our behaviours and decisions; in becoming more competent in changing processes and practices to remove opportunities for bias.

Intended improvement and/or evaluation of impact for pupils, including those with SEND and/or disadvantaged backgrounds:

Through focusing on DEI in schools all pupils feel valued and belong. In turn this leads to:

  • Better preparing pupils for life in the modern world
  • Improved mental health and well-being
  • Improved achievement for all pupils
