Evaluating your curriculum provision using Pupil Book Study Summer 23

Pupil Book Study is an evidence-informed approach that supports leaders to evaluate their curriculum provision.

The approach uses seven themes to analyse strengths and limitations in your curriculum including vocabulary, key content, retrieval, and modelling.

The creator and author of Pupil Book Study, Alex Bedford, will guide participantes through the complex process of monitoring pupils’ books whilst combining this with pupil discussion in this innovative approach.

Before signing up to the programme Alex Bedford will introduce Pupil Book Study in a short webinar. We encourage all school leaders to sign up the free introductory session.

Following the introductory session, participants that sign up to the programme will join 3 virtual sessions over the summer term that will provide the theory and research that underpins Pupil Book Study and explain the mechanisms used to help leaders monitor and evaluate the impact of their curriculum through Pupil Book Study.

Two face-to-face sessions in the autumn term will enable participants to observe Pupil Book Study in action in a host school in Surrey, as Alex models and narrates the process so that participates can implement the approach back in their own school.

Each school that signs up to the programme can send a maximum of 2 leaders on the programme and will also receive a copy of the Pupil Book Study guide and access to a digital library of training resources to use back in school.

The beliefs, knowledge, understanding and/or teaching practices this programme aims to address:
