High Impact Teaching: Primary Science 22-23

The High Impact Teaching series supports teachers and leaders to develop subject knowledge in foundation subjects. The science sessions will develop understanding of progression, knowledge and assessment within science. Using findings from Ofsted’s Research Review, delegates will learn how to lead and teach science most effectively in their schools.  

These sessions will be led by Tom Holloway from the Primary Science Teaching Trust.

The beliefs, knowledge, understanding and/or teaching practices this programme aims to address:  

  • Developing depth of knowledge in planning, teaching and assessing primary science 

 

Intended Impact on practice: 

  • Delegates will be confident to plan purposeful practical work that is linked to curriculum content and sequenced so that it develops pupils’ knowledge after initial explicit instruction.  
  • Delegates will feel confident to teach and plan science and support others to do so.  
  • The science curriculum being delivered in school will be suited to the needs of Ofsted and the pupils.   
  • Delegates will understand progression within science and how to assess pupils effectively  

 

Intended improvement and/or evaluation of impact for pupils, including those with SEND and/or disadvantaged backgrounds: 

  • Through an effectively planned and sequenced science curriculum, all pupils will develop scientific vocabulary, understand how to work scientifically and be well prepared for science in KS3.
