High Impact Teaching Series: Reading & Writing Primary 23-24

The high impact series will support teachers in developing their practice in the classroom and pedagogical understanding with a focus on teaching and learning, meta-cognition, supporting disadvantaged pupils and developing mastery.

6 sessions:

  • Reading for pleasure – developing a reading culture in the classroom and school
  • Reading fluency – supporting pupils with the bridge to comprehension
  • Shared and guided writing – modelling and scaffolding the teaching of writing
  • Spelling & Vocabulary – effective teaching strategies
  • Oracy – supporting pupils with talk to further develop reading and writing
  • Reading for meaning – developing a mastery approach to the teaching of reading in the classroom including strategies for comprehension and vocabulary.

This series of sessions would be suitable for ECTs, teachers looking to improve their practice in English and new English leads.

The beliefs, knowledge, understanding and/or teaching practices this programme aims to address:  

  • Teachers will be further educated on best practice for the classroom linked to recent research and pedagogy. Each session will include ideas that can be embedded into existing practice to meet the needs of schools and their schemes of work and plans.

Intended Impact on practice: 

  • Changes to practice will support pupils to make best possible progress in English
