New to DSL Programme Autumn 26

Comprehensive Preparation for Every DSL

Delivered by education safeguarding specialist Emma Dallimore (Puzzle Piece Safeguarding), this two-day training will go beyond the basics to ensure DSLs possess the tactical knowledge and practical skills to fulfil their statutory duties with excellence:
  • Mastering the Statutory Landscape: In-depth training on KCSIE expectations, Local Authority procedures, and the legalities and practicalities of the DSL role.
  • Strategic Safeguarding Culture: Moving from reactive to proactive by building a school-wide culture of vigilance and “professional curiosity.”
  • Expert Oversight of Vulnerability: Specific focus on identifying and supporting vulnerable pupils, including the nuanced safeguarding requirements for children with SEND.
  • Crisis & Allegation Management: Building the confidence to manage concerns regarding children and sensitive allegations against staff with procedural precision.
  • The Digital & Contextual Lens Equipping leads to tackle modern threats, from online safety and the safeguarding curriculum to Contextual Safeguarding beyond the school gates.
  • Information Excellence: High-level training on managing safeguarding records, data protection, monitoring and filtering and the art of effective multi-agency working
These sessions will provide the “how-to” for impact evidence that inspectors seek, and empower your DSLs to make difficult calls and challenge other agencies when necessary to protect the child. Delegates will return to school with practical strategies and a clear action plan for their setting.

“Before the course, I think I underestimated the role of the DSL. Having completed the training, I now have a much clearer understanding of the complexity and responsibility involved. It’s given me valuable insight into the safeguarding process. Emma was a fantastic trainer- patient, understanding, and thoughtful in the way she delivered the course. She created a supportive environment and made complex topics easier to understand.” Delegate feedback, February 2026
