New to Primary Subject Leadership 24-25

The New to primary subject leadership programme will develop new leaders understanding of monitoring, assessment and curriculum to support them to lead their subject effectively.

Primary subject leaders have a key role in designing a school’s curriculum intent, ensuring the implementation supports pupils to build knowledge over time by developing teacher subject and pedagogical knowledge and finally evaluating the impact of the curriculum in terms of pupil outcomes.

These four sessions will support teachers who are new to leading a subject covering curriculum development, effective teaching strategies, monitoring and assessment. With a focus on research, recent developments and effective monitoring, subject leaders will feel more confident to lead their subject effectively.

This programme will be delivered by one of our primary teaching and learning experts.

The beliefs, knowledge and or teaching practices this programme aims to address:

• Subject leaders will develop their understanding of the role of a subject leader and how action plans can be used to support this.
• Resources will be provided so that leaders can impact on the whole school.
• Subject leaders will be able to support teachers with subject knowledge, planning and assessment.
Intended Impact on Practice:
• Leaders will be able to monitor their subjects effectively through lesson drop ins, book looks and pupil voice.
• Assessment will be used to adapt planning and support pupils.
• The curriculum will be delivered effectively and continually refined.
Intended improvement and/or evaluation of impact for pupils, including those with SEND and/or disadvantaged backgrounds:
