New to Subject Leadership Programme Autumn 23

These three sessions are to support teachers who are new to leading a subject. Covering assessment, curriculum development, monitoring, professional associations, vocabulary, and more, these are a perfect starting point for new leaders. With a focus on research, recent developments and effective monitoring, subject leaders will feel more confident to lead their subject effectively.

The beliefs, knowledge, understanding and/or teaching practices this programme aims to address:

  • Subject leaders will develop their understanding of the role of a subject leader and how action plans can be used to support this.
  • Resources will be provided so that leaders can impact on the whole school.
  • Subject leaders will be able to support teachers with subject knowledge, planning and assessment.

Intended Impact on practice:

  • Leaders will be able to monitor their subjects effectively through lesson drop ins, book looks and pupil voice.
  • Assessment will be used to adapt planning and support pupils.
  • The curriculum will be delivered effectively and continually refined.

Intended improvement and/or evaluation of impact for pupils, including those with SEND and/or disadvantaged backgrounds**:

  • By delivering highly effective teaching and learning in all subjects, pupils will leave primary school ready for their continued learning journey.
  • Accurate assessment will support all pupils to achieve.
