New to Year 6 Programme 26-27

Supporting Y6 teachers with pedagogy, practice and statutory requirements.

Includes a cross-school moderation session. Teachers will feel prepared for both SATs and end of year teacher assessment judgements. New Y6 teachers will be supported with all aspects of the curriculum.

Teachers new to Year 6 will develop their understanding of the curriculum, pedagogy and statutory requirements of Year 6, including maths, English and science. Teachers will reflect on their own practice, deepen their knowledge on how to support pupils and have the opportunity to participate in a cross-school writing moderation. Teachers will benefit from working with other schools to continue developing their own practice and consider how to best meet the needs of their pupils.

Data from a Surrey context will support Year 6 leaders to deliver accurate assessment and a high-quality Year 6 curriculum. Learnings from previous assessments will be discussed to further develop understanding of the end of KS2 requirements.

This programme supports new Year 6 teachers to fulfil statutory responsibilities and to develop their understanding of the Year 6 curriculum. Year 6 teachers will feel confident to administer KS2 SATs, provide accurate teacher assessment and deliver a curriculum that supports all pupils. Sessions on English and maths will also consider strategies for pupils who are struggling in those subjects.

This programme includes 4 virtual sessions held on Zoom plus 1 in person session held at St John the Baptist School in Woking.
