Rethinking Primary Inclusion with Rachel MacFarlane 25-26
After the success of the 2024-5 programme, SAfE is delighted to invite a further 28 primary schools to take part as Cohort 2 of this impactful course aimed at:
- identifying our underserved learners
- assessing how well they are included and provided for
- building their sense of belonging, status and self-efficacy
- sharing strategies to raise outcomes for all and make school unmissable
- developing a culture of equity rather than equality
The programme is facilitated by Rachel Macfarlane, author of ‘The A-Z Of Diversity and Inclusion’, ‘Obstetrics for Schools’, ‘Unity In Diversity’ and ‘The 9 Pillars of Great Schools’.
The course is aimed at primary headteachers, senior leaders and Pupil Premium leads. It is a year-long programme involving:
- 4 taught half days at St John the Baptist School, Woking
- School-to-school visits to share good practice
- Intersessional tasks
- Production of impact videos
A governor from each participating school is invited to the 4th session.
Feedback from Cohort 1 participants:
“Lots of ideas and ways to move forward” “Challenged unconscious bias” “Great, inspiring facilitator” “Loved making links with other schools” “Intersessional tasks made it more immersive” “High-quality, thought-provoking” “Practical strategies” “Professional conversations” “Relevant and up-to-date research”
100% of respondents agreed, and 94% strongly agreed, that the programme was effective and high quality.
100% of respondents agreed, and 89% strongly agreed, that it had an impact on school priorities and pupil outcomes.
Please note that two delegates from each school will be expected to attend each session, ideally the Headteacher and Pupil Premium Lead. The same delegates will be expected to attend all four in-person sessions.
