Putting Lived Experience First: Our Shoes Training Amplifies Young People’s Voices Across Surrey

Our Shoes is a service user led training program that empowers young people to share their experiences of the services that affect them. Designed, delivered, and evaluated by young people themselves, the training is aimed at professionals who work with or make decisions about their lives.

By placing lived experience at the centre, Our Shoes supports professionals to better understand the impact of their practice and make more informed, meaningful decisions.

This week, Our Shoes is reflecting on the first half of the year. During this time, the program has reached over 1,372 professionals and young people, demonstrating its growing impact.

Feedback from participants:

“Engaging, insightful and one of the best training sessions I’ve attended.”

“Hearing real lived experience made this training powerful and unforgettable.”

Surrey Youth Voice is proud of the impact Our Shoes is making and the difference it continues to deliver—ensuring that young people’s voices are heard where it matters most.
