SAfE is passionate about supporting all schools and Trusts in the Surrey and wider area; serving improvement across all phases from nursery to post-16, for maintained schools and academies. We have developed our school improvement offer in collaboration with Headteachers and CEOs to ensure that we can work alongside you to support your school development journey.

We are committed to supporting our Trust community to develop and improve and can provide specific consultancy and support services for Trusts and CEOs. You will receive effective, cohesive support from our team of experts, selected specifically to deliver long-lasting, positive change around your organisation’s key objectives.

What school improvement support is available from SAfE?

Leadership, Curriculum and Governance Support & Consultancy

We can provide expert consultancy and advisory support which includes but is not limited to;

  • A named point of contact for your school or Trust – a SAfE Leadership Support Partner (LSP) to work with Headteachers, CEOS, Chairs of Governors or Trustees
  • Leadership development
  • Ofsted support prior and during inspection
  • Governance development and support from a SAfE Governance Partner
  • Curriculum development
  • Specific or general school / Trust support
  • Bespoke training sessions or programmes
  • Website audit, etc.

Head Teacher Review and Development (HT performance management)

Headteacher Review and Development (HTRD) is our name for Headteachers Performance Management. The philosophy behind SAfE’s Headteacher Review and Development process is:

The SAfE HTRD process provides the school with all SAfE HTRD resources and advisor support;

half-day SAfE LSP visit to school to find out about the school and the SDP priorities
pre-meeting with governing body
access to all training materials and video for all governors
access to coaching training materials for all governors
access to all templates and guidance
2 hours review meeting with headteacher and governors with the LSP
review of the form and advice
2 hour mid-year review

SAfE offers a MAT peer review process;

  • Based on the DfE MAT Assurance Framework
  • Led and facilitated by an experienced adviser
  • Matches MATs with another peer MAT
  • Enables development and improvement in Trusts through challenge and collaboration
  • Powerful, open questions in a spirit of appreciative inquiry and collaboration
  • MATs acting collaboratively to learn from each other and support improvement, where both partners gain from the experience

Multi Academy Trust CEO Performance Management

As an academy trust you’re free to determine your own appraisal process. The board of trustees is ultimately responsible for the CEO’s appraisal and the chair of trustees will likely lead the performance management process.

However, the NGA recommends that all governing boards appoint an external adviser for the appraisal of the executive leader. An external advisor should be suitably qualified and experienced to provide advice and support relevant to the CEO role. For example, an external adviser supporting the appraisal of a MAT CEO should be able to advise on objective setting relevant to leading operations and performance at scale.

SAfE can provide highly experienced external advisors to support your CEO performance management. As with our Head Teacher Review and Development Process we believe in a developmental process that exists within a culture of continuous reflection.
